Parking
We parked at Bowness Knott Car Park (CA23 3AU). It’s pretty spacious with 90 spaces, making it a perfect spot to park for campervans. And it’s free!

Our Visit:
A beautiful lake, with stunning fell views, a woodland to walk through and a waterfall too! A beauty of a mixed bag.
The most westerly Lake in the Lake District, Ennerdale Water is the perfect spot to take in the beautiful landscape without a shed load of tourists about. In fact, it’s the only Lake that doesn’t have a road running alongside it. Meaning it is the perfect place to escape to.
We followed the Smithy Beck trail which takes you to a beautiful little waterfall before you start to return alongside the lakeshore. However you can go further if you wish and I believe there are a few alternative routes that you can follow from the car park. There are a few picnic benches down by the lake and we enjoyed a nice little picnic lunch before heading back home. It’s a lovely spot as we were able to let the kids play by the lake whilst us grown ups relaxed and enjoyed some ‘relative’ peace and quiet.
What the kids loved:
- Skimming stones in the water
- Our picnic by the lake
