Vast blue skies and snow covered fells set the scene for what would be one of our best hikes ever. We ascended to the top, stopping regularly to absorb the sheer beauty of what the landscape had to offer. After an hour and a half we reached the summit and were blown away by the breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding snow-capped fells with views reaching out to Skiddaw, Helvellyn, Striding Edge and across Ullswater.
For the kids, this was the highest fell climbed to date at 431m. The cold and the snow made it an added challenge which they faced head on, providing that added adventurous excitement.

“Steel Knotts may well claim to have the sharpest summit in Lakeland, for the rock tor (Pikeawassa) that crowns the top is so acute that only very agile walkers will be able to stand upon it, although, it will be noted, it is a popular perch for birds. There is no cairn.“
