Our Visit:

This was a solo parent walk with just myself and the kids and we decided to follow the Skill Beck Trail. Climbing just over 300 metres, it is quite a steep track for the first half of the route, so you may need a little bit of extra encouragement or even bribery to keep the little ones going. The promise of lunch in the Old Sawmill Tearoom did the trick pretty nicely for our little gang.

The woodland is absolutely beautiful with lots of impressively tall Douglas fir to gaze up at, and you can even spy Bassenthwaite lake through the trees at various points. It says to allow for 2 hours to complete the walk, but we managed it in just an hour and a half.

There are a few other walking trails through Dodd Wood, including one all the way up to the summit which we are all hoping to do at some point.
